"I write music with an exclamation point!"
Quote credit to Richard Wagner, one of the many fantastic composers whose music I had the pleasure of playing this past weekend. District Honor Band is one of the many experiences that I love in my musical life. Not as fantastic as All-state but it is still incredible.
This year it was such an honor to be in the 11th and 12th grade symphonic band. Wow! So many talented players all in one place is definently breathtaking. We played some of the most challenging music I have encountered but it was something. The band executed it all very well and I feel like we played a spectacular concert! We were under fabulous direction by Dr. Dinkin (I believe that's how you spell his name!) and I learned so much from him. He was a little scary and blunt sometimes, but you've gotta respect a guy who knows so much (he got degrees from many schools, including Juliard and Harvard!!) Such a great musical weekend. It is fabulous to play in such an experienced ensemble. Definently something I so look forward to in college and life beyond.
On a downside note, I've really decided I don't like highschool clarinetists. I much prefer bassooning. Or...of all the bassoonists I've encountered, I've never had an issue with any of them. We just love to have a good time! The majority of the clarinets were kinda rude and snooty and...yea, just didn't seem like they wanted to have fun or make friends. There were just some people there who kinda made me sad cause they were icky. But...life goes on!
Much love and hugs,
Sam
