Blast From The Past

Stories from the Orlando Airport
Okay guys. I figured I'd share something I'd written about a year ago when I got stuck in the Orlando Airport on a weekend trip to Disney World. So here goes!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Isn't it ironic how a short weekend trip for fun could turn into a huge ordeal?
Isn't it also ironic how flying home is supposed to get me there sooner than driving?
Yeah, my weekend has definitely been interesting.
I'm coming to you live from the Orlando airport, waiting on a plane due to depart at 10:05. Wanna know the best part? The original departure time was 5:30. Yeah, it's that bad. And it's all thanks to Mother Nature and her freakish sense of humor to throw a snowstorm in Atlanta today and make all the nice people stuck in airports. Yay for us!
So...since I'm bored and have nothign to do, I'm going to bring you 'Stories from teh Orlando Airport'. -dun dun duh dun!- Exciting, yes I know, but please do try to contain yourself. I'm going to write a little miniature story about my day here. So, here we go!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It all started normal. The sun wasn't out and the day was a bit chiller than usual, especially compared to yesterday which was warm enough for me to wear a pair of shorts. Wind whipped around, but it was nothign totally bizarre. Rain began to fall and we watched the Weather Channel to see what was up with the day, just to see if we should dress a little warmer.
Turns out that it was due to snow back at home and all up the east coast. Fun. So, we begin our day a little hesitant about the outcome.
DisneyQuest was a bore. Being alone in a large building isn't fun especially when the lines for the most exciting attractions are up to an hour long. Not worth the time. After a few hours of almost torture from beign bored, we decide to drop off the rental car and head off to the airport.
We had heard horror stories. 5 hour delays. Cancellations. All due to freak weather in Atlanta. Inclement weather that airplanes won't fly through. Upon arrival at the airport, our fears had been confirmed. Most fligths to Atlanta had been cancelled. It started off okay. It was only a delay from 5:30 to 8:15. But as time progressed, so did the delay.
It became 9:30, then 10:05, all the while we heard the news of the three flights before us being cancelled. If another one was going to go, it was giong to be us.
The airport was crammed. Angry people standing in line demanding a flight or their money back. It was a terrible sight.
At this point, life was getting boring. A few calls with Andrew was the only thing keeping me sane. Mom, Dad, and Jonathan were starting to feel like me. Butts aching. Sleep deprived. Eyes trying to close. Waiting, and waiting for news of our fate.
It's now 8:15. A plane is due to arrive here at 9:25. A glimmer of hope in the dark, cloudy sky of night. Finally something to work off of.
But, alas, it means nothing. We may still be stranded here at the Orlando Airport. The place where the uncomfortable chairs are like monsters and eat away at your soul. The place where the monotonous elevator music becomes a faint drone, almost unnoticeable if it weren't for the fact that it's so darn annoying. And the place where I sit....waiting anxiously to be home and for the events of the upcoming week.
John Travolta ain't got nothin' on me. Stranded at the drive through is nothing compared to being stranded at the airport.
:3
Much love and hugs,
Sam
