Quote credit goes to Charles Sanford. Inspiration for blogging from the book series Pretty Little Liars and a conversation with the wonderful Brittany last night. No, I am not blogging about a big secret of mine. I am just discussing my feelings on the topic of secrets.
I do have secrets. We all do. Some of which I will take to my grave, others that I have shared with my best friends, and even more that aren't really secrets. I have learned from all, learned some from others, and they have truly taught me who in this world I can trust and who to stay away from. They've taught me about true love (romantic and friendship). The people that really love me will respect my secrets. That means either by not pressuring me to reveal them or by not sharing them with others. Respect constitutes love, and that applies to secret-keeping as well. I learned a little about that today.
Everybody has a secret. Brittany said some wise words last night. "Every girl is allowed one secret to carry with them." And I could not agree more. Now, I'm not saying this means you are strictly entitled to one and only one secret and if you're a man, you are not allowed any. Not at all! It just means that we don't have to share everything with the world. Some things are meant to stay inside our hearts. Meant only for us and maybe a select few who we trust with our hearts.
Secrets can be incredibly destructive or beneficial even. They can teach us about ourselves and/or others, help us grow into our own, and realize the workings of the world. Sometimes the world of mystery behind a secret can be terrifying, but just know that you are not alone in that world. There are many (however many humans there are on this planet) who face that same fear. A secret is haunting. A secret can hurt.
But a secret is ok. If it wasn't, then there would not be any.
